Shrinjita Biswas

Shrinjita Biswas is a third-year PhD student in Interdisciplinary Theatre Studies. Her research entails gender and performance, feminist cultural practices, and political theatre in India. Her research on the histories and continuities of the feminist theatre movement in postcolonial India explores the question of feminist ethics, protest, the politics of solidarity and care, and its relationship with performance. Her latest publications include a co-authored article for the Theatre Research International (Cambridge University Press) titled, “Reclaiming Public Spaces in Post-Pandemic India (Kolkata): Activist Theatre, Gender and a Resurgence of the Marginal.” Shrinjita has been trained in Classical Manipuri Dance form for over fourteen years, and later in the Contemporary form. Her recent artistic practices include “sleepless//stateless,” a site-specific solo work performed in April, 2025 (UW Art Department), and “Eclipse,” a social awareness play performed at the Hemsley Theatre in December 2024, which she has directed, co-authored.
